Readytex Art Gallery press release:
Revealing our stored treasures
een keuze uit de collectie
(a pick from our collection)

On Thursday February 2nd Readytex Art Gallery opens a new exhibition in De Hal at de Grote Combéweg. No solo-exhibition with works of art from one single artist, but an exhibition that does exactly what its title suggests. For ‘Revealing our stored treasures’ the team at Readytex has taken upon itself the difficult task to choose a selection from the extensive stock available at the gallery.
The exhibition ‘Revealing our stored treasures’ indeed shows a prime selection of the highly varied collection of artworks in storage at the Readytex Art Gallery. The large, neutral space in De Hal offers the opportunity to simultaneously exhibit in a rather splendid way, a great amount of artworks from several artists, from several years. This is especially gratifying since over the past 19 years, our art collection has totally outgrown our beautiful, but small gallery at the Maagdenstraat. Now, starting on February 2nd this exhibition allows us to present striking works of art dating for example from 1987 from John Lie A Fo, 1998 from Rinaldo Klas, 2003 from Reinier Asmoredjo, unique work from 2005 from Wilgo Vijfhoven, other than lately seen work by Kurt Nahar and never before exhibited works of art by Kenneth Flijders and Roddney Tjon Poen Gie. But also artists such as Dhiradj Ramsamoedj, Sunil Puljhun and the ceramist Leonnie van Eert, who haven’t been affiliated with the gallery for all that long, are well represented. And of course there is much more! ‘Revealing our stored treasures’ is a ‘wall to wall’ art feast, an exhibition in which the visitor is served a small, yet delectable taste of Suriname’s artistic creations from the past several years. Regardless of the viewer’s taste, there is sure to be something for everyone amongst the 80 to 100 artworks from about 22 artists in the full, yet stylishly decorated space in De Hal at the Grote Combéweg. The majority of the works of art date from before 2010.
As gallery we are continuously on the lookout for better and more frequent ways to present the art in our collection to the public.  New collections are alternately presented in special solo-exhibitions, which can regrettably last for only so long, after which time the works of art become much less visible to the general public. Of course each work of art from every partner artist remains accessible and obtainable worldwide through our website (www.readytexartgallery.com). In a thoughtfully designed exhibition however, art is truly displayed to its best advantage and the entire collection of art kept in storage, deserves to be once again displayed in such a special way.

This exhibition is an extension of the mission of Readytex Art Gallery. The gallery believes in the strength and the potential of Surinamese art and artists, and contributes to the growth and development of both through a market oriented approach and promotion, nationally and internationally. However, the growth of the art sector in Suriname and the amount of work that we extend in favor of this, is highly dependent upon the support and actual investments made by art collectors, the government and especially the business sector. By investing in the growth opportunities and the career development of our partner artists, we as a gallery ensure that the investments made by our customers remain sound and can potentially increase in value. The gallery, the customer and the artist indeed each have a crucial role to play in the development of the Surinamese art sector. Each exhibition we schedule in our program is considered an important impetus to stimulate and encourage public awareness surrounding the value and the beauty of Surinamese art and its great potential on the international art scene.

‘Revealing our stored treasures – een keuze uit de collectie’, is open to the public from Friday February 3rd until Sunday February 5th from 19:00 -  21:00 hrs.
