George Struikelblok: "Love is life"
George Struikelblok uses acryl mixed with oil paint in earthly colors and pastels often on canvases of at least one by one meter. In his work he deals with the theme death and love, due to the death of his father before he was born. “Even now, happily married and having two daughters of my own, I’m still confronted with emotions of loving and missing him in my life” Struikelblok says. I use a blank figure most of the times to show the hurt of my fathers’ absence and sink fences symbolize the segregation between the living and the dead. Letters, that do not form words, but are scattered in the painting represent the kind of communication that the artist experiences with his deceased father: even if it’s only through his DNA and the memories of his mother.
