Hanka
Wolterstorff, who moved to Suriname from the Netherlands in 1966, is driven by
the urge to create something she considers beautiful. Her identity, which has
become mainly Surinamese and yes, even Alakondre…, is interwoven into every
composition that she intuitively creates. The graceful curves and extended tips
of her ceramic sculptures, occasionally combined with elements of Surinamese
wood are always reflective of the tropical nature that surrounds her.
